We've got a snow storm here, not as big as the one back east but it's been snowing off and on for most of the day. It's been a while since I've been out with my camera. I decided to try my hand at photographing snowflakes. Don Komarechka does some beautiful snowflake macro photography and has a lot of advice on how to do it. Here's what I ended up with.

I don't have specialized equipment for this I just used my 70 - 300 telephoto macro  cropped the image way down and made some adjustments in lightroom. I'm very pleased with them considering the limitations I had to deal with.

I've been neglectful of my posting over the holidays, but now things are getting back to normal and i have some blogging to catch up on. Several of my subjects over the last months wanted photos for Christmas gifts. Now the holidays are over I can post a few with out worrying about ruining someones surprise.

It's been a busy few weeks. I've been averaging two to three shoots a week and then the editing on top of that. I don't think I really understood the time that editing can add to the shoot. I also get why it's so good to do as much editing in camera as you can. I think I may need to reduce the number of photos in my final cut to twenty or so to make it more manageable.

Had a great time on Friday photographing Kenya up at the capitol. She is a beautiful, fun, and very patient model. Here are some of my favorite images from the shoot.

I went out last night with my camera to experiment with photographing stars and using long exposures. This is the best I got before my batteries died.

We had a bunch of thunderstorms roll through last week. Around midnight on Thursday I grabbed my camera a took off to do some experimenting.  I spent about an hour in an open field taking photos of the lightning until the storm got uncomfortably close, then I packed it in. Quite happy with my first-time results.

Work
My job has me working five day weeks all through july and as far out as the schedules have been released. That means 45 to 50 hour weeks with little free time for myself. Espically bad since I was counting on the extra day off for home work. My astronomy grades are suffering and I'm way behind in sociology with two weeks to go.

New phone
I renewed my phone contract so I got to pick out a new phone. I chose a pda type phone with a full keyboard and large screen. It has a better internet connection also.

New camera
My old camera finally died so I got to order a new one. It's a pentax digital camera. I also ordered a remote control, an additional battery pack, and a telephoto/macro lense. It came on Monday but becouse of school and work I havn't had much chance to experiment with it. I have read through all 200 plus pages of the manuel. I am very excited about the possabilities. I'll post some photos as I get them.
