update on Misha
Aug. 27th, 2010 03:02 pm We are asking your help in getting out the word that we still need a blood type O kidney donor. The donor must meet the following qualifications:
Must be between 18 and 65 years of age
Must not be pregnant or plan to become pregnant within one year (no history of gestational diabetes)
Must not be overweight (usually BMI of less than 35 – this is pretty close to Misha's size)
Must not have multiple risk factors for heart disease
Must not have a history of kidney disease (including kidney stones or recurrent infections)
Must not have a history of infectious disease (hepatitis B or hepatitis C, HIV, syphilis, tuberculosis, etc)
Must not have a history of cancer
Must not have a history of chronic lung disease
Must agree to diagnostic procedures including needle sticks, major abdominal surgery and its potential risks
Must be able to be off work at least 2 weeks and up to two months
There is no compensation for the donor, but his/her medical expenses, including testing, will be paid. The testing process itself takes several weeks, so plan accordingly. Please let us know if you are seriously interested, and we'll put you in touch with donor services. This is a big commitment. Please consider carefully before volunteering to act as a donor.
