icecream and other stuff
Sep. 23rd, 2009 07:52 pm Pulled out the old icecream maker again today and made probably the best batch so far. I started with my standard vanilla recipe then i added about 30 - 40 ozs of finely (and I mean blender pureed fine) fresh mint leaves, added the zest from one whole orange, and the juice from half of said orange. This wasn't just damn good icecream, it was dayum good icecream.
In other projects I've managed to make a ceramic smoker a'la Alton Brown, Instructions found here.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ka2kpzTAL8 . I tried smoking a couple of pans of meatloaf however it never seemed to get hot enough to cook them. I ended up finishing them up in the oven. They did have a decent but subtle smoky flavor. I'll be experimenting more with smoking in the future.
